The bar mount is really nice, allowing you to remove it anytime tools- free. The instruction manual is good but with the usual small type. Everything works and I was able to calibrate the altimeter rather easily. See more Reviewed by Knucklehead Knucklehead Helpful. This has the extras I like, such as. Altimeter, Temperature, climb %, plus all the normal calculations, such as speed, stop watch, clock time, dual bike settings, and the list goes on. It's a little tricky to setup and when the battery's need replacement you just need to follow the directions carefully to set it back where you want it. The wireless function has always worked great. I use it on my mountain bike and it stays in place, despite the bumps and jumps. Enjoy. See more Reviewed by bikerdon bikerdon Helpful. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness. It does all it claims to do and does it well. It does require strict adherence to the instructions.

Unlike other CatEye products, it allows the user to change one variable at the time without erasing all the others. For example, you can change the wheel size or the odometer without disturbing anything else. This goes for all resettable items. I really like the ability to just tap the computer almost anywhere near the bottom to change pages; nice when wearing full fingered gloves. This is certainly a well thought computer and it will take a while to remember how to do everything without referring to the instructions but what's new with that. Of course, some variation with atmospheric pressure is to be expected but nothing like this brand x does. This CatEye Adventure I have holds the altitude until the atmospheric pressure causes it to move smoothly up or down over several hours. It is much more accurate than my Garmin Touring GPS which only uses GPS altitude which varies quite a bit. An added feature of the CatEye is that you can set up a reference altitude, such as the altitude of your driveway obtained accurately from Google Earth, and quickly recalibrate the altimeter to that altitude. I have 6 bike computers all in use on various bikes and this one is by far my favorite. I am a picky engineer and don't give out five star ratings easily. When I started riding computers like this were the norm, so it was no more complicated than I remember, I had the programming portion done in 10 minutes. The instructions are small and printing out the PDF is helpful. And the buttons are also small using a toothpick with a flattened end facilitated this better, but the rest of the set up was simple. In fact I bought 3 of these for my 3 bikes. Almost one after another one, the SENSOR lost the encoding, therefore I now have 3 computers good for scrap. I took the computers to pro shops and all said that they have had several customers buying Cateye and the sensor losing the code. Therefore the computer cannot be activated as there is no signal transmission.

Returned goods must be unused and supplied with their original packaging, unless the goods are faulty. Wiggle will pay the return postage costs for any faulty items. More information on Wiggle's return policy I'm not disappointed. It's very easy to fit on the bike. Operation, with the SSE button, is straightforward (although I couldn't figured out what the acronym 'SSE' means!), even on bumpy trails. Altitude and temperature are accurate (it's easy to reset altitude to a reference value, the slope indication is useful). No issue with wireless operation or under rain. It's convenient that it can measure two distances (i.e. 'dst' total for the day and 'dst2' which can be reset independently at waypoints). So all in all, in my opinion an excellent choice for the MTBerThe Cateye Adventure did not disappoint. I'm still trying to figure out how everything works (especially the altimeter which i'm not one hundred percent convinced with) but everything else seems to work great. The temperature and slope readings are useful and having a couple of different odometers is a good touch. Swapping between displays is easy (just push anywhere on the bottome of the device) and the displays are all easy to read. Setting up was fairly easy though i had a few problems trying to get a signal to the computer from the reader and magnet. The magnet attaches to the wheel spokes and passes through the sensor zone on a reader attached to the fork. I had a little trouble getting the magnet and reader close enough together because of the clearance between the fork and wheel (mountain bike). Overall then a very good buy and well worth the money. Although slighlty flawed here and there the computer offers some cool features that will have all your friends in awe. Enjoy your riding!

It needs frequent resetting but that's normal for this type, and the finishing altitude given isn't always the same as the starting one.But if you accept it's limitations it's a useful tool which helps both with mental encouragement and energy management on long routes. The inclinometer seems to me to be pretty accurate; it will take a lapse of a few metres to give a reading and is very reactive to change of angle at low speeds, giving what looks like variable readings;but I haven't found this a problem; one quickly learns to assess percentage by perceived effort. It's easy to set up and the other functions all work well. It's nice to have a ride total ascent, and a cumulative ascent.I might have chosen the white version in retrospect - it's a small black gadget which is difficult to find when it's off the bike and in a bag.Country: United Kingdom 1 year, 4 months ago Wouldn't be sure of it's viability for VTT. I also have a VDO MC 1.0 on my other bike which is chunkier and easier to get hold of, and seems more robust.I think it's water resistant enough. Just make sure its well bedded into it's holder. Both work well for altimeter and slope percentage, and battery life is very long.Just remember barometric altimeters need frequent recalibration - not too difficult on either. 1 year, 4 months ago. DHL cost is higher than cost of the 3 computers. This is my second Cateye y just a couple days. For this price is is the best Cycle Computer in the market, considering it is a new model and much cheaper than older models. Also considering CatEye is a high quality top brand in the world since many years. I wish it had a Cadence option, which is the only thing this model is lacking. Useless, it sits in a corner. Maybe it was a bad unit. But they wouldn't (couldn't?) replace it. Live and learn. Too bad no one else makes a non-GPS unit like this that does climbing and slope as well as miles etc. Now they want hundreds for a GPS unit which has frankly not the accuracy as a on-board revolution counter for distance, given the meandering path we usually take on roads etc. Altimeter seems accurate compared to my phone's GPS. Distance is very accurate compared to road mile markers (less than 1% error. Obviously this depends on setting the correct tire size). Temperature sensor works well, seems pretty accurate. Grade seems fairly accurate-More accurate than the Gyro in my pickup. Overall an excellent all-around cyclocomputer, will be the perfect computer for touring in the mountains (eventually my plan). Good display, works well in direct sunlight (it's not lighted though). Display has three lines to show four different stats (Awesome. Oh yeah, it also shows your speed. Overall this is an excellent cyclocomputer for what I do. I use it for commuting to work and mountain biking. It does not have a cadence sensor, but I don't care. Can't comment on battery life yet, as I haven't run them down in several hundred miles (it did ship with dead batteries). It will be the perfect cyclocomputer for touring in the mountains (whenever I get around to doing that). Only downside is getting the damn thing set up. I'm an engineer, so I figured it couldn't be too difficult to follow some instructions, however, the instructions are awful, and the setup is not intuitive or obvious at all.

I did find some other instructions as well, online. Link below (quick setup manual was the best). I would recommend to a friend, especially if touring. For your hundred quid you get a well made, easy-to use bit of kit that adds a few useful features to the standard set. The mount itself is one of Cateye's plastic Jubilee clip affairs that you can attach to your bars or stem, and it's the usual zipties and thumbscrew for the sensor and magnet. The sensor needs to be paired with the head unit, which takes about a minute and ensures trouble-free communication. Mine has performed flawlessly throughout testing and has been unfazed by sportive traffic, overhead wires and LED flashers. The screen is split into three rows. At the top there's your speed, writ large, and underneath that there's a dot matrix row that concerns itself with altitude and gradient. At the bottom are all the other functions: trip distance, average and max speeds, odometer, clock, elapsed time and so forth. Their indicators are a bit small and hard to read until you get to know the sequence, but it's not a big deal. Scrolling through the functions and resetting the computer is a piece of cake thanks to the fact that you just click anywhere on the face; there's a small secondary button that's used for accessing some data. Useful features that you don't often find include a countdown distance timer and the ability to toggle auto-stop on the clocks, which is handy for timed events. I've used a lot of barometric altimeters and most of them are very good; this one is no exception. You need to set your altitude at a known point to get a reference, but after that it's pretty much spot on. Obviously air pressure varies during the day and that will affect the readings, but it's unusual to arrive home to find the altitude more than five metres different than when you started. Gradient updates every few seconds and is accurate to 1% on the climbs whose gradients I've measured.

I took the Adventure on the Forest of Dean Classic sportive and it's very handy to be able to look down and get an instant reference of your altitude, there's far fewer shocks along the way. If it seems like you've been climbing for ages and the needle's only just crept above 100m, you know there's going to be more to come. Similarly, you can track your descending and judge from how low you go how hard the next climb will be. On long flat bits that are hard work you can instantly see whether they really are flat or not thanks to the gradient readout. The Adventure gives you a full tally of metres gained and lost, which is a good number to bandy about at the end of a long ride. Anyway, it can be interesting, more so in the winter when it can warn of unexpected ice patches. The Adventure scores well on all points, and it's a good all-rounder. What do the manufacturers say about it. How does that compare to your own feelings about it? With Cateye’s accurate cycle functions on board, the Adventure Wireless gives additional Current Altitiude, Trip Altiude, Gradient and Total Altitude Gain as well as Temperature. Giving you, the user, an extra dimension to your ride or race readout. Some of the data headings are a bit fiddly though My best bike is: Genesis Equilibrium with Ultegra 6700 If you like road.cc, but you don’t like ads, please consider subscribing to the site to support us directly. The cons: The display is not customizable, so you can only see the certain information on certain screens rather than choosing your own format, ie you cannot see altitude, temperature, distance and speed all at the same time only speed altitude, grade, and average speed (arbitrary examples). The button system is terrible, the one on the front is difficult to push, recalibrating the altimeter means playing with tiny buttons on the back and overall changing and settings is a right pain. Day one I spent about 6 hours riding in a steady rain, by about hour 3 the display would no longer change due to the wet, that is the best I can gather because it worked again when it had a chance to dry out. Overall, I would not recommend this computer, but apart from the expensive and short battery life gps systems lots of reasearch lead me to believe there are not many good options aboutIt therefore is not properly functional. In detail: - Altitude reading is usually off by 10-40%. - Home altitude is ALWAYS 33-40% lower upon return to home base than the previously (and correctly) set home altitude. This occurs even after short rides, e.g. after 50 minutes. That means that all altitude readings in between are also wrong and yet one needs to reset home altitude before every ride to get at least some approximate reading. What makes this worse is that the resetting process is a mega-fiddly nightmare (juggling three tiny buttons at the back, with near-useless instructions). -Ascent-descent-gradient readings constantly jump all over the place especially at low speeds even when the gradient is even, rendering this function nearly totally useless. We have many steep hills in the Brighton area and the South Downs, so say that a hill has a fairly even 14% gradient, the readings will constantly jump anywhere between 3%(!) and 16%, a total nuisance.
