First impressions were good, it was easy to set up and everything about the display is great in my opinion. The problems start to creep in with times and distance on long rides - at around 60 miles this thing really clocks up a significant error (it was about 10 miles off). It also came away from the handlebar mount on my 4th ride with it and got smashed up by a bus, so I wasn't really impressed with it after that. Other people seem to have had good experiences with this though and the read out on the screen is decent quality but you've just got to hope it doesn't fly away on you when you go above 25mph.After numerous inserts and removals the tiny plastic catch which holds it in place wears and eventually a jolt from riding over rough ground or potholes causes the computer to free itself and disappear.The computer itself is small and easy to operate. You simply press the entire unit to swithc beteween the various displays and press and hold to reset the counters. The display will show you your current speed in the main area of the screen and underneath that it will show whatever additional selection you have currently chosen. These additional displays cover highest speed, average speed, distance since last 'reset', total distance since you started using the device and time. Additionally there is a little arrow in the top left corner which points up or down based on if you;re going faster or slower than your current average.

    The sender unit (this is wireless) is a bit more tricky on my particular bike as the forks are more oval and not a consistent shape and CF too. A pair of cable-ties are supplied, so I fitted that in the correct orientation and within the specified 70cm of the display and spun the front wheel - bingo - 8 mph. The unit itself in the top mount serves as a press-to-change via a micro switch underneath so it only requires a press on the lower edge to alter the display to what you want to read when travelling. Highly recommended for an uncomplicated device that does pretty much all you need. Higher spec units do GPS but you know where you went as you were there!     Fitting it is simple enough with some very good quality fixings for the computer, a small magnet which screws onto your spokes and a sensor which you cabe tie to your front fork. The sensor is a little on the large side but that really is a minor complaint. If you're serious about cycling then this really is the entry level computer of choice and nothing really compares to it unless you're willing to spend big bucks on a ?200 device.But of course this one doesn't do cadence, which is rather a disappointment. Another disappointment is that the wireless range is only about 60cm, which means it's not possible to fit the sensor on the rear wheel, which would have been useful on the turbo-trainer. Still, you get what you pay for. The display unit is very small and light, and all parts are very easy to fit.It was working all fine for the past 7 months, then all of sudden, when it is wet, it would give any readings or very inaccurate readings. Tried to contact the seller, just asking whether there is something I could do to fix the problem like position of the sensor. No reply whatsoever, got ignored completely. Was gonna let it go and upgrade to Garmin but I will take this on to the end for the principle. I would suggest buy a Garmin Entry level rather than this. Would only cost fraction more. Or if you only want temporary one, and use it for few months, then this will be fine, it wont work after few months anyway. At least mine does not.Since nearly all electronic odometers now have at least 8 functions I took recommendation from a friend who cycles in Scotland and got this Strada Cateye. It's easy to affix, easy to set up (clock, tyre diameter etc.) and then mount on the handlebar stem with the strap and soft protector provided. The spoke magnet mount allows for both flat spoke and round - the wheels on mine have flat spokes but the ends are round so the magnet goes right on the outermost edge.

Nigel 5.0 out of 5 stars I was not disappointed with either aspect when it arrived. According to my GPS and looking at my biking routes on Google Maps, it is quite accurate in terms of distance (and therefore, presumably, speed). I just used the wheel diameter chart that comes with it but you could probably be even more accurate measuring yourself. Speaking of the instructions, they are not perfectly translated from Japanese but still quite good. It's a little complicated to set up but only because it does several different things. It took me maybe 5 minutes to get it configured the way I wanted and now I never have to touch it. The one giant button interface is convenient for when I'm cruising on aerobars and need to work the computer with my nose. It's certainly not a huge screen, but it doesn't need to be and this way it's very light. I have a 62cm bike frame and a full 300mm fork so bikes don't come much larger and I still did not have any issues with range. The sensor is mounted near the top of my fork and just angled in a bit to get close enough to the spokes. No issues at all with that so far. I mounted the screen on my handlebar stem and the signal has no problem going through the stem apparently. Some other reviewers have mentioned the computer popping out of its cradle. I'm not really sure how that is possible because it locks in there so tight I could not get it out without removing the cradle even when I tried.

The screw-on mount is really easy to use and effective. The light when mounted is solid. It took quite a while to initially charge it through the USB port. I have yet to run it flat so maybe that is not really a big issue. The flash is bright and the beam fairly focused so good for alerting motorists coming toward me or turning from a side road onto my road. It is fairly heavy due to the battery pack compared to other lights the same size, however it is pushing out 300 lumen so I guess it needs a decent size battery to give enough duration between charges. I have yet to ride in rain so cannot comment on the lights effectiveness here. Maybe great for Phoenix, not so great for Seattle - who knows.

    I got the pink option due to price, and functionality, it works like a charm. Although, be warmed it is a little bit of a pain to install and sometimes on bumpy trails it gets misaligned. One time I took it on a lakeshore ride, and it was amazing in helping me keep a consistent pace throughout my ride. The next day, loaded the car up to a bike rack and drove it a couple hours up north and started riding without the computer reading my sensor. I was annoyed, but it made sense that a couple hours on the road will misalign the sensor, which is no fun. But when it works, it works great and keeps me on track.This is the third Cateye bike computer I have purchased and all have been of high quality and accuracy. The batteries last about one year. The only improvement they could make is to enable the display to give some kind of indication the battery needs replacing. The only way to tell is the unit stops working and the display is not quite as dark. I have actually replaced these computers thinking they had gone bad when all that was needed was a new battery. Most every other electronic device I have will give an indication the battery is running low.seems like a simple fix to make this 5 starsFor the money these are great. You can spend much, much more for a GPS based bike computer to get basically the same thing. Unless you are going to download your rides, Cat Eye does the trick. Even if you want to track your rides, just download Map-My-Ride to your iPhone and stick your phone in your back pocket. The batteries last several years. They are easy to install and set up. And they work great. I have used this model for years and highly recommend it!I like seeing how fast I go, the distance I go, and the time it takes me. Beware, though. It's really easy to install but a little tricky to fine tune. I had to play with the sensor and magnet to get the device to pick up the sensor. Patience may be required. I haven't had any issues with the device falling out of the mount.

    It fits on very tight and it even requires some pulling to get it out, so that's a good thing. I make a habit of taking the device out whenever I leave my bike out of my sight. I don't want it to get stolen. I lock my bike up wherever I go, but you never know.At first it seemed to be defective but I called CatEye and someone helped me to make a small adjustment to resolve my issue. It is easy to read and seems pretty easy to reset. I look forward to getting a lot of use out of this device.I bought this for my wife because I love the one I have. Please try again This thing is just perfect for those who are riding on streets in the city and suburbs that are fairly well lit. It will be OK if the streets are a little dark, but other than that, no. I have to say that I am quite pleased with it. It served me well on my ride, and coming back home with the sun up, the units flash mode truly works well for daytime riding. One thing I like about the light is that it doesn't stream light like a spot light. The result is well spread out, so your not just lighting up a spot on the road ahead of you, but out to the sides as well. I have just ordered the Volt 700 which I will need for the days when I'm on out of town roads with little to no street lighting. Hopefully the 700 will work for me. My wife will take over the 300 as her riding is just around the neighborhood. She's a bit concerned about going off too far on her own for obvious reasons when it is dark. Unfortunately today, it isn't safe for women. It's a shame, but what are you going to do. That's the world as we know it.

Please try again At 300 lumens it's not the brightest light out there, but I am using this mostly during the day so that I can be seen by cars. I don't typically ride at night, but suspect it probably isn't bright enough to usefor illumination. The mount is interesting and I'm still getting used to it- it's a little stiff, and a little hard to tighten, but it's easy enough to use. And unlike my Cygolite 400, it uses micro USB to recharge and not ancient mini USB. Overall, it seems like a solidly constructed unit, and I think it looks very classy and stylish. Please try again While I was doing so, I realized it was best suited for a commuting light, and really should'nt be used on trails at all. (My opinion, though). I also found that it is a combination of 'spot' and 'flood', but more the former, than the latter.Simply take another battery, (fully charged, of course) with you, and screw it in when you're heading home, if need be. The light is also VERY light,(in weight) and you won't even notice you have it on your bars. Please try again Most of the streets in the 4 Boroughs are well lit (sorry Staten Island, you don't really count as part of the city), and many riders can rely on cheaper lights, just to be visible to cars. However, the streets that tend to be poorly lit also have poorly maintained pavement, so it's nice to be able to see any upcoming potholes while biking. This is my second CatEye Volt 300, since I lost my first. However, to be safe, I always run High on poorly lit streets. Battery: The battery is supposed to last 3 hours straight on High. Since I don't ride too much in the dark (maybe one 45min night ride every two weeks), I can't really confirm this. However, the battery should be sufficient for urban commuting, and it seems to discharge very little when not in use. It's definitely made 3 separate 30-45min rides without a charge. You can also buy spare batteries separately. Build: It feels light and solid. It's 120grams (0.3lbs). I believe the front light portion is stainless steel, and the rear battery is covered by a pretty strong plastic. I've dropped it on concrete from waist height, while opening my bag, and it functions fine. My old CatEye Volt had gone through several rainy rides and works fine.     Please try again While there are several reviews lauding Volt 300's brightness. Fortunately, that's mostly what I need as I bike on city streets and (mostly) lit bike paths. It also snaps on and off, useful for when you need to chain up the bike and want to remove something that could be easily stolen. The USB charger is handy as its a common port and works well enough. The only downside is there isn't any sort of battery indicator. Every month or so I need to charge it and it'd be nice to know if I'm getting near the point of a recharge.
